Lily Gavalas was always aware that the process of becoming an artist was one of her most likely life paths. She grew up in a household where art and music were respected as equal members of the family. Her work corresponds to several styles, including Realism and Symbolism. She currently works primarily in acrylic on canvas, and allows the choice of the subject matter to drive the style she uses. Her rule for her artwork is that the style and execution should capture the inner life, personality, or mood of the subject. When she’s not painting, she’s playing the piano, and when not composing music, is partial to works by Chopin, Joplin, and Philip Glass.
