Studio #213 – Matthew Gantt

Matthew Gantt renders mythopoeic images from his unconscious mind using a technique he terms “Constellationism”, wherein he randomly throws ink onto folded paper and blots it repeatedly until he spontaneously sees an image; similar to making a Rorschach Test ink blot. He then enhances that image by connecting the dots, painting, and line work to ensure that others see what he saw in the chaos.  His efforts result in dreamlike, archetypal portraiture that blurs the lines between art, depth psychology, and shamanism.
